Nutritional Therapy - Benefits and What to Anticipate in Your Appointment

What is naturopathic nutritional therapy and what can it help?

Naturopathic nutritional therapy combines the sciences of biochemistry and nutrition with natural therapies and lifestyle changes in order to help you maintain a good state of health.

It looks at the body as a whole system and addresses potential underlying causes of ill health rather than focusing on symptoms.   It’s a personalised approach that focuses on the individual and aims to identify potential nutrient imbalances that may contribute to symptoms.

Nutritional therapy can be used to support chronic conditions as well as day to day fluctuations in health. It can help to improve, among other things:

  • Digestive issues
  • Blood sugar issues
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Migraine
  • Poor sleep
  • Skin conditions
  • Aches and pains
  • Auto immune disease
  • Allergy
  • Energy levels
  • Poor mental health
  • General wellbeing
  • Stomach and bowel issues
  • High histamine levels

A naturopathic nutritional therapist will explore your health with you and put together a programme of food supplements and dietary recommendations, tailored towards you as an individual.

This will help you move forward with health goals or manage health conditions, forming sustainable habits that last a lifetime.

What does the process look like?

Once your consultation is booked you will be required to completed a detailed health questionnaire and food diary.

This will need to be returned in time for me to analysis and research before we meet. I will then ask you questions to expand on this information so that we can create a therapy plan that best suits your needs.

An initial nutritional therapy consultation lasts one hour, all my nutrition consultations are held immediately person, in the Exeter area. I may use certain naturopathic tools to help me create a picture of your health, and if necessary, recommend laboratory tests to deepen the knowledge we have of your body.

Once I have a full picture of the health issues you need support with, I will then advise you on nutritional adjustments, lifestyle changes and supplements that I feel will benefit you. This will be fed back in a twenty minute video call. At this point you will be provided with a copy of your nutritional protocol, any supplement and test recommendations and a selection of handouts, by email.

After the initial consultation we can then decide on an appropriate schedule of repeat visits.  The number of consultations necessary depends on your unique situation. The aim of follow-up appointments is to monitor your progress and adjust the protocol to suit your evolving needs.

Repeat consultations generally last for an hour and are usually every 3-4 weeks.

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is a holistic approach to health and wellbeing that focuses on using food and nutrition  to support the body's natural healing processes.

I provide personalised nutrition plans tailored to individual needs.

Whether you're looking to improve digestion, boost energy levels, manage weight, improve your nutrition  intake, or address specific health concerns. Nutritional Therapy can offer valuable insights and support on your journey to optimal health.

My Nutritional Therapy diploma is held with the School of Health, and I am a registered Nutritional Therapist with the Federation of Nutritional Therapy Practitioners.

What is the difference between a; dietitian, nutritionist and nutritional therapist.

Dietitian's - Dietitian's provide practical guidance to sick individuals to help them  make appropriate, healthy choices for a specific medical conditions. They often work as part of a clinical team, including for example doctors, nurses, physiotherapists etc. They take a direct approach to the illness being presented to them, not the body as a whole.

Nutritionists - Registered nutritionists are qualified to provide information and nutrition advice about food and eating habits. They may take a similar approach to a Nutritional Therapist. Nutritionists normally operate out of private practices. Dieticians will normally operate out of the NHS.

In general, nutritionists provide evidence-based information and guidance about the impacts of food and nutrition on the health and wellbeing of humans

Nutritional Therapists

Nutritional therapists practice complementary medicine, taking a holistic approach to the symptoms that are presenting in the body, They provide recommendations for diet and lifestyle to reduce or prevent health issues and illnesses. They work on the belief that the body has underlying nutritional and biochemical imbalances that lead to poor health, including mental health problems.
