Yoga class - Side angles

Hey there, yoga enthusiasts of Exeter! I'm bursting with excitement to share the latest theme of our yoga classes: opening up the sides of the body. In our most recent yoga flow, we delved into the invigorating practice of yoga side stretches—a dynamic and refreshing way to release tension and restore vitality to our bodies.

Side stretches are like a breath of fresh air for our often static and tension-filled bodies. While we often focus on stretching the front and back lines of the body, the sides are frequently neglected. But for optimal health and well-being, it's essential to stretch in all directions, including sideways.

So, what makes yoga side stretches so fantastic?

  • They restore balance to the entire body, promoting harmony and alignment from head to toe.
  • Side stretches lengthen the hip and thigh muscles, enhancing flexibility and range of motion.
  • They bring freedom and suppleness to the spine, allowing for greater mobility and ease of movement.
  • By stretching and lengthening the intercostal (rib) muscles, side stretches release tension in the chest and promote deep, expansive breathing.
  • They offer relief from neck and shoulder tension, melting away stress and strain from these commonly tight areas.
  • Side stretches open up the rib cage and lungs, improving breathing capacity and enhancing overall vitality.
  • And let's not forget about the abdominal muscles and digestive organs—side stretches stretch and massage them, promoting healthy digestion and elimination.

Key yoga postures from our recent flow included triangle, extended side angle, and gate posture—each one designed to unlock the full potential of our side bodies and awaken a sense of spaciousness and freedom within.

If you're itching to experience the joy of yoga side stretches for yourself, I invite you to explore the yoga sequence below. With the interactive layout, you can scroll through the yoga flow, print a copy, or even play it in real-time on your screen. Whether you're joining us in the yoga studio or practicing at home, this accessible and uplifting sequence is suitable for yogis of all levels.

So, are you ready to embark on a journey of exploration and discovery through the exhilarating world of side stretches? I can't wait to see you on the mat and share in the joy of movement and expansion together. Let's dive in and experience the magic of yoga in Exeter!
