What is the Shen-Prana Connection?

In Chinese medicine, the Shen is one of four vital substances of the body. It is responsible for our emotional lives and the spiritual consciousness of our being; it is the radiance of our truest self.

In Ayurvedic medicine the Prana is the life force in the body, it is thought to be responsible for maintaining heat and physical functions. It is our life force energy and our breath of life.

This project aims to bring together the spirt and the body through using a holistic and integrated approach to health, combining the extensive knowledge and therapeutic techniques we have learnt over many years of formal education and a passion for alternative medicine.

The Shen-Prana Connection is a new project from best friends Anne and Sara, of Holistically Anne Harrison and SJL Acupuncture.

Anne and Sara originally met whilst working in a busy office and instantly connected over a love of all things naturopathic.

After working in a number of high pressure and complex roles in the emergency services, local government and the civil service, they both decide to take a different path in life and retrained to follow their passions.

Anne completed her initial yoga teacher training in Sampoorna Yoga, Goa in 2015 and since then has continued to develop in a number of different yoga styles. She is also a qualified Wellbeing Coach and Nutritional Advisor, currently studying at the School of Health as a Nutritional Therapist.

Sara graduated from the world renowned College of Integrated Chinese Medicine with a First Class Honours degree and licentiate in acupuncture. She practices an integrated style of acupuncture which incorporates both Five Element and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is also trained in Guasha, Cupping and Moxa.

Yin Yoga

While yang yoga focuses on your muscles, yin yoga targets your deep connective tissues, like your fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones. It’s slower and more meditative, giving you space to turn inward and tune into both your mind and the physical sensations of your body.

Five Element Theory

The Five Element theory is rooted in Chinese medicine. Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal are the fundamental elements of everything and this theory describes the interactions and relationships between all objects found in the universe, including ourselves. We hold each of the five elements within us, but throughout the stresses and challenges in life, these inevitably become out of balance.

The Venue

The workshop is being held at Kiva & Zen Studios, Topsham. The studio is full of beautiful spaces and a has unique vibe, with cosy chill out spots, plenty of candle light and healing aromatherapy oils filling the air.

This will be a small and intimate workshop of up to ten people. All equipment is provided along with a wide variety of herbal teas, coffee and chilled water. There is free off road parking outside the studio.

Want to try acupuncture with Sara?

I graduated from the world renowned College of Integrated Chinese Medicine with a First Class Honours degree and licentiate in acupuncture, where I now sit on the executive & management committee as well as mark assignments.

I discovered acupuncture in my early twenties as it supported me through a transformative healing journey. Eventually, the burning curiosity about how it worked encouraged me to leave the Civil Service and pursue a new career. My biggest goal is to support others through their journeys.

I am incredibly passionate about this holistic form of medicine and practice an integrated style of acupuncture which incorporates both Five Element and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In doing so, I am able to treat the mind, body and spirit of my patients. Those who come for treatment receive an in depth consultation and diagnosis which I use to create a personalised course of treatment to support them and their main complaint.

I am a fully insured and licenced practitioner and a member of the British Acupuncture Council.
