Yoga classes in Exeter, book here

My yoga classes run in themes for five weeks.  This allows for people to put in place adaptions to suit their body and learn the different options of each yoga flow that are right for them. After the five weeks you will find each yoga flow published on my blog, with a free interactive copy.  You will find the yoga class for this theme below.

Yoga Class - Stretching into strength

The focus of this yoga flow is to use gentle strength to mindfully improve our yoga postures. By engaging muscles as we stretch, we provide better support and stabilisation to our joints. This approach not only enhances our yoga practice but also helps in forming long, lean stabilising muscles, reducing the chance of injury as we move from one yoga posture to the next.

The Importance of Gentle Strength in Yoga

Gentle strength in yoga is about finding the balance between effort and ease. It's about engaging the muscles while maintaining a mindful awareness of our body's limits. This mindful engagement helps in creating a stable foundation for our yoga practice. When we engage our muscles during yoga stretches, we offer support to our joints, which can prevent injuries and improve overall stability. This approach to yoga ensures that we build strength without compromising flexibility.

Forming Long, Lean Stabilising Muscles

One of the significant benefits of engaging muscles during yoga stretches is the formation of long, lean stabilising muscles. Unlike the bulky muscles developed through traditional strength training, these muscles from yoga postures provide a toned appearance while enhancing our overall stability and balance. Stabilising muscles are essential for maintaining proper alignment and support during yoga postures, making our yoga practice more effective and enjoyable.

Going Deeper into Stretches with Yoga

Engaging muscles as we stretch in yoga can help us go deeper into the yoga stretches. This might seem counterintuitive, but the activation of muscles creates a sense of stability and control, allowing for a more profound stretch. By mindfully engaging our muscles in yoga, we can explore the full range of motion in our joints and experience the complete benefits of each yoga posture.

Focusing on the Core in Yoga

A strong core is essential for overall stability and balance in yoga. This yoga flow includes a dedicated section focusing on core strength, helping to build the muscles that support our spine and improve our posture. Core exercises in yoga are not just about achieving a flat stomach; they are about creating a solid foundation for all of our movements. A strong core can help prevent injuries, improve balance, and enhance our ability to perform other yoga postures with greater ease and confidence.

This yoga flow finished with a beautifully chilled out restorative section at the end, to unwind the mind and recover the muscles we have been working with.
